One of my avid ski buddies brought to my attention to this Seattle Times article about Contour, a company that produces HD helmet cameras for athletes. The company was founded by University of Washington Foster School of Business students Marc Barros and Jason Green, because they needed an idea for a business plan competition.
So they attached a camcorder to one of their ski helmets and won $20,000.
According to the article, helmets are now being used by pro football athletes such as Philadelphia Eagle Michael Vick (what a comeback!), Indianapolis Colt Peyton Manning, and Chicago Bears tight end Wes Welker.
If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to be on the field – UW released this (liberally edited) video of their quarterback wearing one of the cameras. As a football fan, it’s pretty darn cool.
